Meet the Horses
Our horses names are Aimes, Heidi, Pepsi, Beauty & Mojo.

Amy
"Aimes" is a kind hearted and beautiful mare (adult female horse)
She came to live with us late spring 2004, and has become a wonderful addition to our Once Upon a Horse family. She is 1/2 Quarter Horse and 1/2 Arabian which blesses her with a calm nature and an ability to be on the go all day long without tiring. Aimes is a great teacher and an "all-around" horse who can be ridden English, Western, or Bareback.

Heidi

Heidi is a paint quarter horse. She looks like ice cream.

Katie, one of our students researched quarter horses and said they are noted for their little ears. This is what George, my son has been calling her since he met her. So you will hear her referred to as"Little Ears".

She is a sweet mare, and is 15 years old and willing to please. She enjoys her food as much as any horse and is now a part of the family.

She had only one companion at her other home so she is adjusting to her place in the "herd", which is the name of a horse family. Pepsico is the leader of the herd and that will remain fixed unless another horse is introduced and then they have to decide who will be the herd leader.

He protects Heidi as that is the leaders job so she is safe and comfortable with her companions.

We are lucky to have her and her little ears.

Pepsi
"PepsiCo" a very sweet and talented thoroughbred ex-race horse. He is our only gelding (boy) and had a few careers before semi retirement. As a young lad he was the son of a winning racehorse Native Dancer. An injury prevented him from racing at 5 and I bought him from a young girl when he was 6. He was alright to jump and run as long as he wasn't race riding. We enjoyed each other for many years jumping and galloping. He moved on to an upcoming event rider and then the young man outgrew him and he returned home last year. He is a an "emotional boy" and a delight to be around. He is now 22 and loves children and carrots and snow.

On a sad note, our Sweet Gabby passed December 28th of 2005. Gabby was 34 years young and one of those special " once in a lifetime" horses.  She will be missed by us all. We were so fortunate to have her for so long and now we all know what to look for when we purchase our first horse.

Gabby has her wings.

Star

On a sad note once again......

Our lovely, dear, feisty pony, "Star", has earned her wings. Our resident "rockstar" of a pony, that so many of you knew and loved, had been struggling

with arthritis for the last few years   and in her old age, just lay down one beautiful early spring day for

a long nap.

She was tired and sore and didn't want to stand anymore. Unfortunately, ponies and horses cannot

live lying down.

So we fed her a wonderful "tossed salad" with all the trimmings of carrots and clover and grass and grain. The vet was called and after some long goodbyes she was given a shot to go to sleep.

We all...everyone who knew her, loved her and the story of "Star" will live on in our hearts and stories.

She brought much joy to many riders and inspired many beginners that continue to ride today.

We were all so lucky to know her and love her and now celebrate her "wings".

We all miss you "Star"...you surely left us all a Happy Trail.
