OUR HORSES

We love our horses at Once upon a Horse, and so do our students. While riding is one of the major reasons folks come to our lessons, camps, and parties, they come as well to learn how to care for the horses they ride. They learn about grooming, they help feed the horses, they take care of tack, and they learn to do groundwork with horses, too.

All our horses have experience with beginning riders. They are patient and friendly, and they come to know the riders who work with them. But despite the fact that we care very much for our horses and trust them with our riders, we emphasize safety above all. So our riders learn how to behave safely with horses both in the saddle and on the ground. Our students always wear proper boots or close-toed shoes and helmets (which we provide), and we teach them how to conduct themselves in the stable as well as outdoors with the horses.

OLD FRIENDS

Some of our horses have left us for other barns or for a heavenly pasture, but those of you who have worked with us will remember them fondly, as we do.

Heidi
A Quarter horse Paint with personality. She is 16 years old and can best be described as a "One Trick Pony."

Pepsi
A beautiful Bay Thoroughbred, 25 years of age.Pepsi spent his earlier years as a racehorse. He has a big, beautiful, giant heart.

Pretty
A "pretty" Chestnut with curly mane and tail. Pretty is 40 years young and she has a very independent nature.

Sugar
A classic Welsh Pony of 24 years. Sugar is smart and pretty. She pleases our younger riders because she is also well schooled, polite, and quite small.
