All the joys of being at the barn. Learn the skills needed for a successful trail ride in the
arena before you venture to the beach or the mountains for the "real deal".

and mail, with a non-refundable check for 1/2 the amount, to reserve your space. We will
email a confirmation and directions to the barn.
Summer Pony Camp
9:00 am- 2:00 pm
(ages 4-11)
We have 2 new friends at the barn "MoJo" a shetland pony and mini cross, and "Beauty" a black unmarked paint.
A day at "Once Upon A Horse" begins with a tour of the barn and a morning roundup, which includes a question and answer session and the story of Once Upon A Horse.
We meet and greet the horses with leading and grooming and tying demonstrated.
The emphasis is on safety and fun.
We then divide into groups of 5 which rotate between painting, making horse cookies, gardening (carrot) and riding (english western and bareback.)
Lessons are private so students are free to move at a their own comfortable pace.
Scampers bring lunch and water, and snacks.
The last day Thursday is our Pizza Party and the parents are invited to our "Horse and Pony Show", cameras required. (Please provide a lunch for your child Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday...Thursday, too, if they don't like pizza!)

Once Upon A Horse day camps offer an introductory horse camp for new riders ages 4-11,
where safety comes first! The following approximates our daily schedule:
Monday: Meet and greet horses. "Once Upon A Horse" book reading and safety guidelines.
Tour barn, garden & art center. Lunch. Grooming lessons, Lead Line Ride, Carrot feeding,
Round up & review.
Tuesday: Round up & review. Divide into groups of 5 to garden, paint & ride. Lunch.
Wednesday:Round up and review. Divide into groups of 5 to garden, paint & ride.
Review grooming, mounting and dismounting and add trotting on the lunge line.
Round up and review.
Thursday: "Pizza Party" kids lunch. Parent's party 12:30-2:00(bring your cameras!)
Sparkle horses toes, braid horses with ribbons and flowers. Bathe, Gather toss salads
for horses. Ready the barn for the party and welcome parents to the show.

Birthday Parties (weekend parties now available)
First come, first served.
Saturday and Sunday party times available. For reservations, please call 503-635-7403.
Party package includes the baker's dozen for up to 12 children, with hats & bandanas for
all and the "Once Upon A Horse" storybook for the guest of honor.
You bring kids and cake and whatever you want to eat, and eat from, and we provide the
party room, the atmosphere and the ponies.
Children ride and brush and feed carrots in the 1st hour, then break for cake and presents.
2 hours are reserved for the party(The 3 hour reservation includes a half hour to set up and
a half hour to break down.)
Larger parties are available, but there is an additional fee of $10.00 per child over a dozen
and an extra horse charge of $45.00 for groups of 16 (or a few more).
$355.00 for the "Baker's Dozen" package ($395.00 with 2 large pizzas) add $45.00 for an
additional horse if more riding is desired.

Parents and children enjoy this introductory class. Start with a story and then enjoy
brushing, riding a bit, and feeding carrots to ponies. Learn to sit "tall in the saddle".
Wear closed toe shoes; safety helmets are provided.
Please register by going to the Activities bar and scrolling to the registration star and filling in the form including the deposit and mailing to Once Upon A Horse. We will send directions and confirmation upon receiving your deposit.

Rope & Ride (ages 6-11)

Learn the basics of riding and roping. Take turns learning the skills needed for trail riding:
How to sit, rein, start and stop, mount/dismount and ground safety. Roping is a fun way
to fill time while taking turns riding.
Pony Picnic Play Day (ages 2-5)

Children come meet and greet the horses and stay for a warm pizza and carrot lunch.
We ride a bit with the lead-line, brush ponies, feed them carrots, and learn a lot
about this large, gentle animal. A parent/guardian must accompany child and assist.
PONY PIZZA PLAY DAY (ages 5-10)

Pony Pizza Play Days have pony / horse brushing, riding and feeding carrots for the children. Then a pizza in the meadow (or party room if it's raining) There's plenty of room to run, a straw room to play in and lots of wide open country space to simply breath into.
We always teach the kids how to be safe around the horse / ponies whether on the ground or riding.
Indoor arena available.
Helmets are provided. Please wear close toed shoes, or boots and long pants for riding.
Shorts can be brought or worn underneath pants, for playtime.
The events last two hours. Cost : $65.00 for one child $25.00 for each additional sibling. Parent participation is welcomed - but not required if drop-off is preferred.
RIDING LESSONS
Beginning lessons are offered both in English and in Western riding styles. Lessons include horse language, horse care, ground safety as well as natural riding techniques and equition training.
Susie studied the art of teaching horsemanship in the rigorous British Horsemanship Society school in the United Kingdom. Emphasis is on safety first, "from the ground up" horsemanship. We have developed a program specifically designed for the novice to intermediate rider. Adults as well as young riders will benefit greatly from this program. Our specialty is bringing on young riders in a private and safe environment, with children starting as young as three years old.
*FIELD TRIPS
Fact filled group sessions designed around the barn, ponies and horses.
Bring your group to explore country life! Scout troops, daycare centers—field trips can be tailored to your group’needs, the basic session includes meeting the horses & ponies and learning how to be safe around them.
Horse language, horse care, equipment and a lead line ride, and horsey play.
*Price: A two hour field trip for up to 12 children runs $185.00
